Koalas are small marsupials that live in trees in Australia. Females can live for up to 17 years, but males have a life expectancy of less than 10 years, due to fights with other koalas, dogs, and cars. Koalas have 5 toes per foot, 2 of which are opposable, which allow them to cling to trees. Fossil remains of koala-like being have dated back to 25-40 million years ago. Koalas eat only plants, and most of their diet consists of eucalyptus leaves, which are high in amount, because most animals are poisened by them. They seldom ever drink water, because eucalyptus leaves are 50% water. Koalas have pouches for carrying their babies like kangaroos. After they're born, the koala babies get into their mommy's pouch to grow hair and develop.
